Steve Salyer Electric started in 1991 as a result of an announcement by the U.S. Government proclaiming the closure of the Newark Air Force Base. Not knowing where I would be working after the closure, and having had the desire to own my own company from the time I was 12 years old. I started taking jobs for friends and acquaintances which could be done after work and on weekends. This very quickly turned into a very big animal, and within a year I found myself working more than 40 hours after work and on weekends. By the time the actual date for the closure was announced, I had established a sizable repeat customer base, and in May 1996 set off full time in business. My experiences working for a residential contractor during my Vocational school education, apprenticeship training and the education I received while working in the security industry (fire and burglary), coupled with my industrial experience from 12 years at NAFB, gave me a well-rounded exposure to the electrical industry.
Our first full time employee came on board in 2001, and from that point a slow steady growth continued. We added an Office Manager in 2007. The core group of employees that has become a staple of the company is our pride. Each has come here for their own reasons and each has tried to treat customers as they want to be treated and to do a great job for them. We are very fortunate to have employees with varied backgrounds and hobbies. This variety of experience gives us a unique ability to handle projects where others may struggle.
As the electrical world’s technological advances continue, we will continue to send our employees for additional training and to try to stay on the (proven reliable) front of technology and the best, most up-to-date installation methods, allowing us to provide our customers with the best possible service.
